A right Whale, one of the 100 or so in the bay this spring. These gentle giants are baleen
whales, who feed on zooplankton, and like to cruise on the surface like this one. It is just
this habit that made them so vulnerable to collisions with boats. While they were in the
bay, the speed limit for all boats was 10 mph. The entire world population of right
whales is estimated at a mere 350.
